Adactus Housing’s Miles Platting You Decide winners 2015
£25k worth of funding from Adactus Housing Association will be split between nine community groups operating in Miles Platting, East Manchester.
The groups offer a wide cross section of activities, events and equipment that local East Manchester residents will benefit from. 16 groups originally applied for and after a voting process where Adactus Housing Association residents living in Miles Platting were asked to vote for their favourite projects, nine groups won the money. The process is based on participatory budgeting, where local residents make the decisions.
Nine projects received the cash and will develop their projects over the coming year. Successful groups include St Cuthbert’s Miles Platting Lads and Girls Brigade, St George’s Day Parade, Park View Community School and a group of local residents from Farnborough Road, Miles Platting.
Representatives from each of the nine groups attended a celebration and information event at Miles Platting Outreach Library. It was an opportunity to celebrate, ask any queries and for Adactus representatives to run through details of the funding. Groups also did a lot of networking at the event and a couple of the groups have already discussed working together in the future to develop their projects.
Carol Henry from Park View Community School commented: “We are delighted that we won this funding. It means that we can now offer the community pitch for hire free of charge and carry out some essential maintenance work. We know that it is expensive to run community groups so if we can help reduce their overheads then it might help other groups to come forward and use our games area for other sports such as tennis or basketball. The more local people that use it, the less likely it is to get damaged”.
Issie Howard, Resident Involvement Officer from Adactus Housing comments: “We’re really looking forward to working with the nine projects, helping them to develop their ideas in order to make a difference to local people living in Miles Platting”.
