Maybole in South Ayrshire is the latest Scottish community to experience PB. And it was reported to be another full house.
People from across North Carrick voted with their feet on how best to spend funding in their local community. South Ayrshire’s first ‘decision day’ was held in Maybole on Sat 7th May 2016 to promote local decision making through participatory budgeting.
South Ayrshire decision days offer local people the opportunity to decide how money is spent in their communities. The Council asked the public for their help in making the sessions a success by attending the sessions and voting on their favourites. The first of these, in Maybole, has a primary focus on health and social care projects.
A fund of up to £20,000 was made available at the Maybole decision day, with 26 community groups pitching to an audience of local people about their proposal and how it will benefit the community. Groups can be funded up to £1,000 for use in local projects. Anyone over the age of 12 was able to take part in the vote.
The money was made available from Health and Social Care Partnership, the Scottish Government, and the North Carrick Community Benefit Company.
