Below is an excerpt from a great blog from Jenny Southern, a Young Advisor who recently visited Berlin to talk about PB… and now been invited to join a follow-up meeting at the Hague… way to go Jenny…
The meeting was the NECE Participatory Budgeting Focus Group on 11th and 12th October 2013 held at the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Berlin.
I attended the first ever NECE Participatory Budgeting Focus Group on 11th and 12th October 2013; at the Federal Agency for Civic Education in Berlin! It was such an amazing experience. I met so many interesting and knowledgeable people. It is an honour to be a part of this focus group, and to represent Young Advisors, on an international level!
The focus group was a great success. I enjoyed every second of my time in Berlin. I learnt so much knowledge, and was also able to give other participants knowledge around Youth Participation; which some of the participants had never been involved in. Many new and innovative ideas were shared, including how we as participants, can work together internationally, to develop and increase PB for our countries and citizens.
If I had to say one thing that I have taken away from my experience it would be the idea that: ‘It’s not about MY country and YOUR country, it’s about OUR Europe!’ and we should be working together internationally, to include people in making such vital decisions!
Thanks to Gary Buxton, Chief Executive of Young Advisors for passing on the link to Jenny’s blog.
