Young people get involved in Youth Lead the Change

The City of Boston is making history for a second consecutive year as the city has allocated $1,000,000 of Boston’s capital funds for the youth to spend as they see fit! This process is called Youth Lead the Change: Participatory Budgeting Boston.

Participatory Budgeting in Boston started with a series of public events in January, in which community members came together in idea collection assemblies to learn about the budget, talk about projects they’d like to see funded in the city, and volunteer as Change Agents to help turn these ideas into full proposals for a public vote. Change agents like Mabel Gonzalez Nunez.

MTV News spoke with Mabel about how she got involved with Youth Lead Change, Boston’s Participatory Budgeting initiative, what her friend’s think about it, and what she would spend the cash on if it was totally up to her.
