Blogs on Participatory Budgeting and possibilities for deepening democracy

on 9 May, 2013 in Documents, News

An interesting blog post from Steven Corbett of the University of Sheffield, proposing that (despite some signs of success) in order to bring a real transformation PB processes will need to develop a deeper deliberative and empowering approach than that currently practised in the UK.

Toby Blume has also been blogging on Participatory Budgeting, and he sees opportunities ahead, if councils are brave enough to develop a new approach to PB.

As Toby says: "PB may not be a panacea and it cannot be the total of our ambition, but it does offer a way of engaging residents in a more honest, transparent and knowledgeable debate about the difficult challenges faced."

Toby followed up this post with another for Guerilla Policy.
